Kargıhan

Kargıhan is in the north of Kargı Stream in Beygın District of Manavgat district of Antalya. It is approximately 36 km from the center. Kargıhan, whose inscription is not available and there is no precise information about its construction year and shape, is dated to the period of Anatolian Seljuk Sultan Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev II, who was on the throne from 1236-1246, according to the details reflected by its architectural style.

It is known that Kargıhan was used as a caravanserai during the Roman, Seljuk and Byzantine Periods at Kesikbel Mevkii on the old trade route connecting Central Anatolia and the Mediterranean Region.
Kargıhan has architecture similarities with Kırkgöz Han in Döşemealtı and Sarapsa Han in Alanya. It still retains originality with its 44 single rooms, prayer rooms, guest reception hall, underground hot water system, Turkish bath, and commercial areas.

Surrounded by thick body walls, the 46-meter-wide, 50-meter-high inn consists of a rectangular closed section in the east-west direction in the north and closed and open rooms around a square-shaped open courtyard in the south. The rectangular closed section and the rooms on the west side of the courtyard are divided into two stages by square pillars. The main hall and other rooms are vaulted. There are ventilation shafts on the ceiling of all rooms. The crown gate is in the middle of the south main wall of the Kargıhan, which opens to the courtyard. The portal protrudes from the rectangular body walls and has a unique appearance.

Kargıhan was taken under protection as a First Degree Archaeological Site. It was transferred to Manavgat Municipality for 36 years in 2021 with renting against repair.
