Gedelme Castle

Gedelme Castle is in Güneşli – Gedelme settlement of Kuzdere District, 60 km from Antalya city center and 18 km from Kemer.

This Byzantine medieval castle has been well preserved and has survived today. It was dated to the 9th century by Jacobek. Kadrema means grain phrygmo, grain drying, grain protection, grain pit. It began to be pronounced as Gedelme in time and gave its name to the Gedelme Plateau, where the castle is. It is estimated that the castle, which can dry all kinds of grain, is a structure where Gedelme and other ancient cities and settlements on the coastline store their products.

Gedelme Castle has two more unique beauties around its walls. Cheese Hole Cave is 65 meters south of the castle. A large part of the cave, which has a total length of 74 meters, is dry. According to the entrance, there is a small pond at its deepest point, which is 19 meters. The cave exhibits a wild beauty with its stalactites, stalagmites and columns. Again, near the city walls, there is a 2500-year-old plane tree. It is among the monumental trees of Turkey. With its gigantic trunk and majestic appearance, the tree continues to defy the ages. Gedelme Castle, with its cave and magnificent plane tree, draws the attention of guests and tourists who come to Gedelme Highland.
