The Antique Dome Road is the source of the district's name in the district of Döşemealtı. The local people called the stone-paved road, whose surface is 4 meters wide, "Döşeme" for short, the strait through which the road passes, "Döşeme Boğazı", and the plain under the road "Döşemealtı". Dosemealti became the name of a group of villages here, the whole plateau and the town centre, and finally, the whole district.
The Derbent Strait was one of the roads connecting the cities of Pamphylia and Pisidia in ancient times. It was used for about 2000 years. The road continued its effectiveness and was actively used in the Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman Periods. It continued to function as the migration route of the Yoruks until recently and has survived to the present day without deterioration.
Around the road paved with large and small stones, ruins prove that the region was an important settlement in previous ages. There are also structures used as military mansions for control purposes in certain periods along the way.
With its fascinating atmosphere where history, culture and nature are intertwined, the Ancient Paving Road is one of the favorite alternative walking routes, especially for nature lovers and travelers.
