Buttoned Houses reflect the unique traditional architecture of the Taurus Mountains. They are among the symbolic structures of Akseki. The houses, which you can see the best examples of in Sarıhacılar, Belenalan and Bucakalan Villages of the district, draw attention with their marvelous design features.
The houses prepared with local materials such as wood and stone are called 'Button' because of their architectural features. In houses usually built with two floors without materials such as mortar or cement. The woods used to interlock and form the skeleton of the house. Since the short pieces thrown vertically on the mostly unplastered walls of the skeleton resemble buttons, the houses were called "Buttoned" by the local people over time.
The houses are resistant to earthquakes thanks to their durability and defy the years, constantly breathe due to the natural materials used in their construction, and the airflow staying cool in summers and warm in winters.
You can start to visit "Button Houses" in Akseki, which takes its visitors on a journey through time and exhibits an awe-inspiring appearance with its authentic textures. By following the Sarıhacılar Historical Caravan Migration Road, located at the entrance of the district, you can wander through the narrow streets of Sarıhacılar Village, which has the air of an open-air museum, forgetting the hours. In Belenalan and Bucakalan Villages, located on the second track of the road, you can come across the most regular examples of this unique architecture.
