Selge Ancient City is approximately 100 km from Antalya and 80 km from Manavgat. The city is reached by the 55 km long road that follows the Köprüçay River to the north, starting from the Tağıl road junction of the Antalya-Manavgat highway. This mountain road covered with greenery and oleander flowers has impressive landscapes with interesting geological formations. It was established at an altitude of 1250 meters from the sea. The ancient city is within the borders of Köprülü Canyon National Park, which is famous for its rich endemic diversity and natural wonder canyons.
The ancient city of Selge is considered one of the important cities in the Pisidia Region and the first city in which money was minted in the region. It has been one of the frequent destinations of travelers and traders throughout history with its unique scenery, medicinal plants, wide forests, fertile lands and orchards. It is said that the population of the city, which had important commercial relations with the Aspendos Ancient City, was under Persian rule for a period, and reached its most glorious age in the Roman Period, reaching 20,000 people. In the 13th century, Selge, which came under the rule of the Turks, turned into a settlement called Zerk.
The surviving works of the ancient city of Selge generally consist of the walls and the acropolis. Some of them are the stadium, gymnasium, church, agora, monumental fountain building, necropolis, and the basic lines of two temples dedicated to Zeus and Artemis. The strongest structure of the city seen today is the Greek-Roman style theater with a capacity of 9000 people. It was restored in the 3rd century. Again, on the Köprüçay River and the road following it, ruins such as flank bridge, arch bridge, waterway, an ancient road, chapel, garrison buildings can be seen.
