The ancient city is at the 45th kilometer of Antalya - Burdur Highway, 1 kilometer after the Çubuk Strait. Ariassos or Ariasos Ancient City is in the west, and the Scythians founded it in 3000 BC. The city was destroyed and abandoned after the earthquake it experienced during the Roman Period.
The city is a Pisidian settlement in the Taurus Mountains at 900 to 1,100 meters. It has maintained its economic power with the toll and tribute fees it receives from the passengers, as it is on the road connecting Antalya to Anatolia. It is also thought that viticulture and olive oil production were carried out in the region.
The general plan of the city, spread over an area of 400 meters, consists of the main street extending in the east-west direction and the buildings located on the terraces on both sides.
At the beginning of the valley, where the entrance to the ancient city of Ariassos is made, the magnificent monumental entrance gate, which is almost completely standing, rises. The building belongs to the Roman Period. It is called Üçkapı by the local people because it has three arches and three entrances.
Apart from the monumental city gate, the most robust and interesting finds are the remains of the necropolis surrounding the city from east to west. The majority of the remains, which show extraordinary qualities in terms of architecture and design, and exhibit enormous stonework, are mausoleums. Together with the necropolises, the city occupies the pit of the valley and the slopes of the hill in the north.
Apart from the monumental city gate and the necropolis, the walls, theatre, bouleuterion, nymphaion, waterway, bath, gymnasium, and public buildings are other important structures. A total of three church buildings were identified, two on the colonnaded street, which is known to exist between the city gate and the fountain building, and one in the northwestern part of the city.
On the western slope of the city, there are the remains of the Ancient Roman Road, which cuts the road to Akkoç Village today. It is known that this road, built with neatly laid large blocks, was the road from the Ancient City of Termessos to the western gate of Ariassos.
The Ancient City of Ariassos, which is just like Hadrian's Gate in the city center of Antalya and deserves to be seen even with its majestic monumental gate, is waiting to be discovered by the wider masses.
