Finike is 117 km from Antalya. It was built on the Teke Peninsula, in the west of Antalya. The district is surrounded by Elmalı in the north, Kaş in the northwest, Kumluca in the east, Demre in the west and the Mediterranean Sea in the south.
It is known that there has been a settlement since 3000 BC in the region where Phenicia, formerly known as Phoenicus. It was founded as a port city by the Phoenicians in 500 BC. However, a settlement dating back to 2000 BC has not been found. The town served as a port where Limyra, the capital of Lycia, exported agricultural products. It became one of the most important trade centers of the Phoenicians. Finike was under the rule of the Byzantines, the Anatolian Seljuk State, the Tekeoğulları Principality and the Ottomans. It became a district in 1914, while it was previously a part of Elmalı, and gained its current name in 1937.
The economy of Finike is based on tourism and agriculture. Fishing is also an important branch of activity in the district, where the production of early-season vegetables and citrus is among the most important sources of income.
